I hated going to game sites and seeing a crap load of ads, of course, you can delete them using some cool plugins with Firefox, but those who don’t have the plugin and use IE would suffer. As long as I can support the game sites with my basic Dreamhost account, I will continue to do so. The problem will come when I will need to buy a dedicated server, and that will take a little bit of money. As long as I can afford to NOT have ads, then I won’t use them.
The next thing is with donations, if I ever have to break down and use ads (which will never ever be more than two regular banners), a person who donates will not be shown the ads, ever. Even if the person donates 1 dollar, the ads should be removed for the duration of the month or so. I should also be fair to the people who are paying me to display their ads on my site.
No Support for Ads on Version 1.0
There isn’t any support for ads, unless you insert the code yourself in the template, in the first release version (v1.0). I may add internal support in version 1.1, but it is will be wish list feature, because my heart isn’t into it and it isn’t needed. It will be eventually, but there are so many other things that need improvement and the system needs to be somewhat better than what I can do for it right now with limited time.
I believe that another game is calling for the internal ad support and I’ll probably use the same code for that in the version of 1.1.
