It seems that no matter what online game you play, you are going to be raped in the ass and it is mostly going to be from a big burly man with an oversized penis. I remember playing Warcraft 3 online, first time playing online, minding my own business when a horde of enemies swarm my small encampment and reamed me really hard in the rear. Penny Arcade appeared to have the same problem back then as they made a comic about, which they also made reference to the raping of the ass.
It is perhaps the most dramatic way to describe, not the most flowerly way. The frustration perhaps removes the control that would stop one from saying, “Oh dammmmn, I just got me ass raped
” in the chat room or private message. The point is how as the game operator do you control the over powered fighters from attacking those who are far under-powered.
How do you manage the balance of power between those who would break the defenses and then allow someone else who is weaker attack?
How to you manage the range of those who can attack higher and lower than themselves? If the range is too high than all hell can break loose. If it is too low than you’ll need to have a high active player list to allow players to attack other players not just have solo play. In the best environment, you won’t need to have an range, which is the hardest to create. Evernight does this somewhat well with a small player base.
The question is often answered by either a long, endearing balancing process in which you constantly lose your players. Or if you have a great deal of experience, then you can just do it from the planning stage. Currently, I suppose my experience after working on three online games is not enough. I will have to do the former and just hope that no one sticks it to my ass along the way.
