He had found one of the men that attacked the house. Near death he managed to tell his story before he died. He was the leader of a team of 49 robbers that stole meager amounts of precious metals. He told his story about the time when they found out about the families house. He didn’t want to come here because he thought it wouldn’t be like they said it would be, mountains of gold and priceless valuables.
Weakly he mumbled out the words, “It had been a cold, damp winter night in a forest of white trees that we decided to meet. We needed a lot of money because we were getting old and needed to cash out. Plus, the vagabond was getting restless with me and I needed to get them something big fast. They had thrown out the old leader because he kept getting them the wrong houses. Well, I did my research before we went into a town and towns finding the best house to rob because if I failed I would have the same fate as the former leader. I also found out when to rob it, through we messed up on this house. I’m sorry it had to be this way but where I’m heading it won’t matter.â€
He paused for a moment looking miserably at Vincent, and then he went on. “We had met out in a clearing our huts a little ways off. The scouts had come to me in my hut a half hour before to tell me where the best houses were and when to rob them. They also told me of a place where it was rumored by the town people that had enough gold to buy the kingdom. It was this house that they had named and I didn’t believe in the rumors. I don’t know, it just didn’t seem right but one of the members walked by at that moment and overheard. There was nothing I could do after that, they wanted to believe so bad that they didn’t listen to reason. I did my best to try to stop them but a few of them almost called for a new leader and I had to go along with what they planned.â€
