I heard the sound of a horse beating its hooves on the path from a half a mile. My ears were a lot better now that I had magic in me. I waited for the horse to come and it did in a short period of time. I looked up at the rider and recognize some things that I knew about him. I knew who he was; he was Samith, the friend of my families. A tall, strong, and old man that was skilled with many arts of magic and fighting, standing firm on the side of the path. Without family and face lined with wrinkles of stress and old age, he got off the horse and came to me and I noticed he wear a black cloak with loose steel, chain armor under it.
“Walk with me,†he ordered.
I didn’t ask any questions because questions would only anger him and that was never good. I guess he went off somewhere after I left. I didn’t think much about that since he does it sometimes. He leaves for months on end but we live in a safe town so we don’t really need his protection. I looked at him and noticed he was off somewhere else, I guess he was thinking heavily about something.
Samith trailed off from walking with Vincent and went to back where he left the family in January. He needed to know something that only could be done if he sent out right then. The family wanted to keep him back, thinking he would leave for a long time. He wasn’t really planning to but would if it meant he had to. Emotion broke through to the family when he finally sent off by horse up north but he was untouched and didn’t display any emotion from the event. He destination wasn’t far from the mountains, almost where his cabin in the woods are.
Samith got off his horse a while back and started walking through the forest. He walked till he came to a clearing and walked up to a natural pool in the center with mud and stone at the edge keeping it in the water. For a thirsty person, it would be death to drink and death not to drink. For immortals, it is bath water for cleansing of the body but for a mortal it is nightmares and spoiled dreams. The pools were all around the island, mostly around the mountains and they hold a great deal of mystery and evil. Some were pure and could be found in the mountains but they were hidden from view and in caves. The pool would tell him what he needed to know so he braved the dangers and went to the pool and looked in it.
