SuperBad is Super Gay

Damn good movie by the way. Funny as hell.

I think two of the main characters are homosexual. They only went through the motions of finding a girlfriend because that is what they thought was expected of them. The third character was straight and actually come out as heterosexual.

There are many hints, but I think you can look at it either way. Either the whole thing was actually to find a girlfriend and have sex or it was a way to find oneself and know what the other really thought. It just depends on what you want to believe.

I just think they are gay, from what I interpret from the movie.

Hints

The main character says he likes women, but never actively participated in finding a girlfriend. Even argues with his friend, that instead of going out and finding a girlfriend, he was out with him (his friend) the whole three years. I would interpret this as he was kind of angry that he made his choice to be with his friend but didn’t know how to tell him. The whole going out and trying to find a girl was just an excuse to not seem weird. Or it could just be that he thought they would actually be able to find girlfriends hanging out together.

The whole time the overweight character, kept making references of being gay. Including the really big clue where he drew cocks (damn good scene, laughed my ass off). He also didn’t like his friend talking about the girl that he liked. I thought, because he secretly wanted his friend for himself. The only problem with the whole theory is that he really wanted to date Jules and felt sad when he thought he screwed it up.

The following scene after that could just be that they were telling each other that they were really good friends and that they will miss each other for the following few years. Or it could be that they told each other that they really did love each other, like homosexual love.

The ending was totally gay, when they finally fall in love with each other and realize that the girls they went after were just an excuse and they really did love each other this whole time. Just my opinion. I’m glad it was left open, because I would rather think that they were just really, really awesome friends and that is all they would ever be.

I still bet that if they made a sequel, it would be years after they threw their girlfriends away and become lovers.

Damn Good Movie

It was touching at times and better than some older “teen” movies. The Director and writer really knows what moments are funny to people and what moments are touching and thoughtful.

THANK YOU! God this was so obvious, especially the second time through. The scene where Seth says that Jules was dating some guy who has "the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen. Have you ever looked into them? It was like the first time I heard the Beatles."

Not to mention at the end, when they pair off with their girls, they stare at each other as Seth goes down the escalator, with a sad expression on their face.

    Anyway, brilliant movie either way.

Can I tell you something? I lived a whole story like Seth and Evan. I had a friend, and we still are very good friends, at school. And we went out every saturday looking for chics. And I was so horny with Valeria. And it all was that way until I blew up everything with Valeria and we ended school and had our night, like them. We slept with each other. We demonstrated us how we loved each other the way you are imagining. And I discovered at that precise moment I am gay. Just like Seth. I don’t know Evan but Seth ended the movie knowing (finally) that he is gay and loved Evan all the time.

Yep, Superbad tells my own story.

Yeah, I figured they were gay although it kinda makes the ending pretty sad. What was telling for me was the scene in the home economics class with the Asian kid made up like a tiger by Evan. Oh yeah and like the ten thousand dick references.

Also women are portrayed in the film as something that the duo are expected to want by each other – a kind of self fulfilling prophecy that they keep testing each other with.

Good film though, am sure lots of gay teens can relate, I wonder if men in loveless marriages watched this and sighed.

I think its was intended that Evan is actually straight, just very innocent and sort of a romantic type and Seth is actually gay but doesn’t admit it to himself yet.
The last scene at the mall was pretty symbolic of that…Evan goes off to have his long awaited date with the girl he likes/loves and Seth goes off to help the girl he "likes" buy makeup… they both end up with the girls they’ve been pursuing and end up in the type of relationship they are actually comfortable with and want to have. Straight girls are ALWAYS the first best friend gay boys after they come out. Its significant that they of the separation they are about experience at different colleges and of the life styles they will both follow.
They might as well have slapped an epilogue onto the end that shows Evan finally sleeping with his girl (sorry can’t remember her name) by the end of the summer and Seth coming out to Jules in the same time frame.

    Frick’n awesome movie.

Damn straight Sonicswoon (somehow I feel like one of those jokes, “So are you ImsoFine69? I’m LatinLover109.”).

I don’t think an epilogue would have made the movie as great. The best part is that we can have the discussion of whether they are gay or not. You can say it either way. It is a lot like Donnie Darko, if they came out and explained everything, then it wiouldn’t have been as good as a movie.

However, I think movie goers want resolutions. I did like how “Fog” had an ending, albeit a seriously screwed up one. If they had it like the book (first movie?), then I would have been pissed.

I rather like that they don’t come out and really sold the movie for me, besides the thousand other humorous situations.

I totally guessed that they were gay however, this kinda of didn’t make for the best of endings. Overall though this movie gets my two thumbs up.

    so so obvious! thank you.

    other hints:
Evan was so apprehensive about having sex with a girl that he didn’t touch her once as she attempted to have sex with him. She said "you have a smooth cock" and he said "you would too if you were a guy". I think that there are a lot of hints but the movie makes sure that it isn’t too obvious by making sure that the gay-ness is undone by other parts of the plot line or some gay joke.

Really?!? I don’t think they’re gay when I watch it! I mean, I completely see where you all are coming from- but I just thought (and still think) that they are just pathetic kids with no self confidence (in Evan’s case) and misplaced self confidence (in Seth’s case). I think all of the queer things they do are just their awkward moments because they’re losers and have no idea what to do with women because all they do is hang out with each other… I will definitely watch it again though, and look for it haha.

  9. Lisa says:

I think Evan was definitely gay too, and not just a bit dorky and naive. Not only was he saying "can’t we just kiss?" when his crush was all over him (and he kept on telling her how pretty she was: he wanted to look at her, not actually be with her … it’s quite common for gay teenagers to crush on pretty girls) rather than ramming his cock into her mouth, but I also think that the scene in Home Ec class was a bigger giveaway, with Evan and his effeminate Asian Home Ec partner putting on each others’ aprons, drawing on each others’ faces with flour and making perfect cakes.

  10. Johnny B says:

And am I the only one who thought that they might have had sex that night at the end of the movie? Did you see how awkward they behaved that next morning…like that awkward one night stand feeling.

  11. Kirby says:

I didnt think they were really gay when i first saw the movie. but my girl at the time said that seth was. I watched this movie nearly every night for the past two weeks and i still laugh and watch the movie very carefully for like facial expressions and hidden jokes and dialogue. Point is, i think its more plausible that seth is bi curious or bisexual at the least. im not too sure if hes fully gay and theres no way to say that for sure anyway. I think evan is definitely straight, hes just akward and sweet and that comes off as gay to some people.

  12. Evan is gay says:

Evan is more gay than Seth.
    But they are both gay.

When Evan is with the girl in the bed, look carefully at his face and how he’s kind of disgusted by her kissing him. That’s a dead giveaway.
