Lose 90 pounds by June 1st, 2009

I’m tired of being overweight, which is why I started doing something about it. The problem now is that I’m pre-diabetes and unless I do something about it, for examples lose weight, cut out soda, other sugars, and go to the doctor, I really too lazy to have diabetes.

It would just be a lot healthier to be down to 130-140, which I’ve never been. I think I’ll be happy at that weight. I bought an exercise bike, but that would just mean I’ll have some pretty big legs. I’ll need to offset the muscle I’ll be gaining in my legs with upper body. I’m thinking one of those all body exercise equipment might do the trick.

I’m planning on buying a treadmill also. It would help with boredom. It might help to switch from the two machines to keep the excitement. However, what really helps me is watching movies or TV. It helps to do two things at once and if I watch enough shows, then an hour or two might go by while I’m exercising.

The main focus however is getting to the point, where my heart is really working hard. Before I was only working at 120 to 130 heart beats per minute. I need to get that number up to 150 through 170 heart beats per minute to really start losing weight. The problem I have is that it is a lot of work and I get tired really easily. Also, working that hard makes me worn out. Really you have to work out like that for at least 15 minutes to 30 minutes before you can cool down and take a break.

It will be a lot of work, but I have some plans and finally since I’m done with school, I’ll have time to pursue them.

I need to be at least 190 to 180 by the time I go to my sister’s wedding in November. That is about the weight I was when I went there in 2005 or about 170 pounds. If I can do that, then by March of 2009, I should be down to my target weight.

I really want to reach my target weight by the next WordCamp Dallas. It is my goal, but depending on other factors, I’ll be happy if I can reach it by June.

I am already eating right, I just need to get a schedule down, where I’m working out in the morning for 30 minutes and then working out for an hour at night. If I can pull this off, I should be able to lose at least 30 pounds by the end of the Summer. The trick is figuring out how to keep it off or at least keep it steady.

What is keeping me from starting now is I’m still recovering from surgery and it is probably not a good idea to work out like that at the moment. I think however, that I’m going to start today, working out that is. My guess is that it will take two weeks to get up enough strength to where I can work out long enough to stay at the third stage.

It is what I did before. I would work out at the second stage at length to build up some stamina, then work up to the third stage. I need to reach the third stage and keep my stamina to really get up to 150 heart beats per minute.

  1. Well, anthing I can do to make this work for you, help you, I’ll be there.

  2. Having been there, done that, wearing a size 12 t-shirt, I know you can do it. It’s hard work, but go slowly. Start with basic walking, and focus on getting your food under control. You can do this! If I can, you can. :D

  3. Hey Jacob,

Except for the goal, yours is 90 pounds…ours 125 pounds, and a few other MAJOR differences, our stories are nearly identical.

What we have recently changed is our "diet vocabulary".

We now view "diet" as a noun…..and only a noun….a non-threatening, simple description of what we eat. PERIOD.

Losing is NEGATIVE; whether the subject is a game, a bank account, or an Olympic performance.

There are over 29,000,000 diet and diet related pages on the Internet.
Almost all of them stress the importance of "doing without", "giving up", "sacrifice" and/or "hard work"…..with the ultimate goal of "LOSING".

Is it any wonder that 99% of these wonder diets fail?

After a very pleasant month, we haven’t "lost" anything. We are happily 15 pounds closer to our goal. In effect, WE ARE WINNING….NOT LOSING.
Instead of the usual two week crash and burn we have known in the past, it’s now exciting to watch our weight graph moving up and up toward achieving the goal.

Gone forever are the days of watching that graph yo-yo down, down, DOWN toward a LOSS that, from past experience, we expected to be temporary.

In our case at least, it is often the simple changes that make all the difference.

Instead of seeing your 90 pounds as a major problem, try seeing it as an exciting challenge.

I counted over thirty counted productive words and phrases in your recent post. They were easy to spot since we have used the same so often.

A quick re-write, either mental or actual might just help you as much as did our own.

    All the best,
