I’m finishing up moving this site and the rest of the sites on Dreamhost. Doing this will save me about $40s a month, so basically, it is one of the money savings I’m doing this month. The other is moving closer to work, to save gas and car maintenance. Also, I’ll be saving about $40 off of my cable TV and Internet bill. So, it should be interesting.

Why not give up the television completely?
We haven’t had television in three years. If we want to watch, we use the Internet, via download or web tv channels. We watched McCain concede and Obama ascend watching BBC World News on the Internet from Oregon. Saves us a ton of money.
Of course, we don’t have cable access here, though we have satellite but the net is too slow and its too expensive where we are. We do a ton of things to save money, and have for ages, like grow a lot of our food (we had a traveling container garden for ages, living out of window box salads and stuff), wear more clothes in the winter rather than turn up the heat, and so on. But giving up television not only saved money and electricity costs, it forced us to live more on the net and turn towards cheaper and more social entertainment.
Ah, what geeks we are. So how goes the move, my friend? Like your new place?
The apartment is pretty decent. I plan on having wild parties and spray painting the walls with graffiti. You know, so that I don’t get my deposit back. I figure if I spent all that money, it might as well go to good use.
Last time I checked, the online TV world wasn’t up to par with my requirements. I will check again since that technology is always evolving and it has been a while since I last checked.
I was also contemplating just buying Season DVDs, since well, I usually wait a while before watching the episodes anyway.
Well, it would save me a lot of money also, if I didn’t buy games only to not play them. C&C Red Alert 3 will come out and yes, I am going to buy it. Will I play it? Not for another few months, while I’m finishing up a few web site projects.
i beg to differ! you have not completed moving as earth still has no domain.
this makes working on it quite hard. =]
and you should make an appearance on aim or msn once in a blue moon so we can catch up.
All files have been downloaded for earth and I’ll finish up this weekend. I’m going to finish up my physical move into my apartment today, so that is going to take all day today. I’ve been meaning to contact you and sent you an email, so basically, check your email and please reply.
The repositories for absidon games are working, but I still need to move over the dragonu ones, but those aren’t as important. The current deployment system using Subversion is working well on other sites. However, the concepts of updates, commits, and merging might require a walk through. The time for FTP and not knowing what has changed on my servers is gone, finally. Something I’ve been wanting to do for two years and I finally got around to achieving it.
Also I need to cancel Dreamhost by the 15th or I’ll be paying for another month. Luckily, all but battle machines is downloaded and I’ll have the repositories checked out soon also.
There will also be new rules. For one, I don’t have a lot of space any more, so the hosting will not be used as a backup system for personal files. Two, the only files that can be applied to the hosting are for the web sites.
oh bummer on the space issues. how much space and bandwidth?
oh and i have good news for you. i just bought a 5,000$ server for my basement and should have it set up soon. maybe we could use that?
