Well, my plans were to basically save up and then pay off the cards at the same time, so that I don’t feel compelled to spend more during that time period. That isn’t what I do anyway, because once I am set to paying off my cards, I don’t spend until they are about 80% paid off. That is where I fall down. When I do have a lot of credit, I do feel compelled to spend. When I’ve maxed out all of my credit cards, well not so much.
The goal is to start with the smaller balance credit cards, first. I have one with less than 100 and one with less than 400. I’m going to tackle those first and then pounce on one that has been making me depressed for a while. I have one card that has about $4000 on it and I need to get that to zero again. I almost have as much on it as what I owe on my car. Which isn’t good, because I feel I should put what I’m going to pay off for the card towards the car payments. If I could do that I could pay off the car a lot quicker. That is an idea. I would save a lot more paying my car loan off.
I digress however. If I get any extra money, it will be towards the car, however for the next year and a half, I’m going to focus on paying off my credit cards. I also have plans to keep savings of at least 500, so that I don’t fall behind on my bills. I’m still not at the point where I don’t have as much bills. It will be nice to be at that point, however, I’ll leave that as a goal for November. I think the next apartment I get is going to unfurnished and hopefully under $300. Well, that is at least my goal. I’ll have to look around come January for a new place and see what is available.
Keeping my bills down will go a long way to both saving and paying off my debt. The more I do that, the sooner I can get out of debt. I think I’m going to try the saving game again instead of using credit, because I’m getting no where spending credit and then not saving so I can pay it off. It is nice to have stuff now, but then again, I still won’t be able to build a new machine until probably Winter of next year.
I’m entertaining the thought of coding a few web projects and seeing if they bring in any additional income. It might help with bills and debt, but I don’t think they will make any money for at least a while. The good news is that once I pay off all of my credit cards, I should be up to a respectable credit score.
